Celtic fan who attacked Mbappe spared jail sentence

Celtic fan John Hatton has been spared a jail sentence after attempting to kick Paris Saint Germain star Kylian Mbappe during their UEFA Champions League group stage clash, according to a report on the Daily Record.

The 21-year-old pitch invader managed to get onto the playing surface after leaping over a metal railing.

The incident occurred in the 40th minute when French giants PSG had just scored their third of the night.

Luckily, the invader made no actual physical contact with Mbappe and was escorted off the pitch by police and was later fined £400.

Hatton pleaded guilty to behaviour likely to incite public disorder by approaching Mbappe at the Parkhead ground.

Sheriff Diane McConnell spared him a prison sentence and handed him a community payback order.

Sheriff McConell told Hatton: “It is fortunate the player you targeted wasn’t struck or injured but he must have been greatly alarmed.

“Clearly there was considerable potential for serious large scale disorder as a consequence of your actions.

“Indeed, I am told some disorder did follow upon your conduct and the crowd became hostile as a consequence of what you did.”

Hatton has been banned by Celtic from attending matches for the rest of his life.
