Scott Brown likely to retire from international football

Celtic midfielder Scott Brown is likely to retire from international football for a second time according to a report from the Evening Times.

The report suggests that Brown is now likely to quit the Scottish national team following the departure of manager Gordon Strachan.

Brown was a regular for the Scottish side who failed to qualify from their group after the away draw to Slovenia.

The pressure was already mounting on Strachan after a disappointing start to the qualifying campaign, but the squad turned it around in the latter stages of the group with a strong run of form.

Leigh Griffiths appeared to keep Scotland’s hopes alive with a first-half goal but Slovenia pushed for an equaliser and the game finished 2-2.

David Moyes is the early favourite for the job, while Malky Mackay, Sam Allardyce and Paul Lambert have also seen their names enter the frame.
