Team news: Celtic v Aberdeen (A)

Celtic face title rivals Aberdeen on Wednesday at Pittodrie in the first top of the table clash of the season.

Brendan Rodgers’ side return to league action after securing their place in next month’s League Cup final at Hampden with a 4-2 win over Hibernian.

The Dons haven’t played since their narrow 1-0 win over Neil Lennon’s side at Easter Road the weekend before last and are level on points with Celtic after nine league games apiece.

In last season’s meetings, Celtic won all six games including the most recent one in the Scottish Cup final and both fixtures at Pittodrie.

Jozo Simunovic suffered a hamstring injury before the international break and further scans revealed he will remain sidelined until the end of November.

Anthony Ralston is still recovering from a slight tear in his meniscus and is working his way back to full fitness along with Erik Sviatchenko who is recovering from a knee injury.

Aberdeen

Ryan Christie is ineligible to play against his parent club but Gary Mackay-Steven will be out to prove a point against his former club after making the summer switch to Aberdeen.

Craig Storie is out of the game with a knee injury but Greg Tansey could return to action after recovering from a hernia operation.
