According to Derry Journal, Celtic are linked with a January move for ex-Rangers target Rashid Sumaila.
Shortly after being appointed manager, now former manager Pedro Caixinha targeted Sumaila as they worked together at Qatari club Al-Ghafara.
The deal was very close to happening, but then it abruptly ended, due to “unexpected complications”.
Premier League side Newcastle United are also thought to the monitoring the defender closely ahead of a possible move in January.
Celtic are in the market for a defender, and reports coming out of Sumaila’s home country, Ghana, are suggesting that the Ghanaian could be the player that The Hoops target.
Brendan Rodgers is looking to progress in the Europa League and win the Scottish Premier League for a seventh consecutive time for the club.
The 24-year-old centre-back played in Ghana’s 2014 World Cup campaign, as well as playing for Mamelodi Sundowns FC, Al-Ghafara Sports Club, Asante Kotoko FC and Al-Qadisiya during his club career, where he has made 60 appearances, scoring four goals and getting one assist.
