Celtic have officially announced that Marvin Compper will join the club on January 1st, 2018, after they agreed a deal to sign him from Bundesliga side RB Leipzig.
The 32-year-old has put pen to paper on a contract that will run until the summer of 2020, but he can’t officially join up with his new teammates, with whom he’ll travel to Dubai for winter training, until the transfer window opens.
One point to note is that the German will not be ineligible to play in the Europa League for Celtic as he featured in Leipzig’s final Champions League group game and as they too dropped into Europa League, he will be cup-tied.

Speaking about the move to Celtic TV, Compper said:
The last year I wasn’t playing at Leipzig so I was on the market. Celtic’s recruiting staff were looking for an experienced defender who could play their style so they found me. The made contact with my agent and it only took two or three weeks to wrap it up. I am very glad to be here.
After the retirement of Kolo Toure, Brendan Rodgers was keen to add an older defender to his squad, but he wanted somebody who was comfortable on the ball and in Compper, it looks like he’s found just that.
