Celtic were held to a frustrating goalless draw at home in their final game of the year in the Glasgow Derby.
Craig Gordon was called into action early on to deny Alfredo Morelos from 10-yards out after Mikael Lustig gave away possession to Josh Windass
James Forrest was inches away from giving Celtic the lead on 13 minutes but his shot was just tipped round the right-hand post.
Three minutes later Scott Sinclair had two attempts denied from close range at the home side pressed for the opening goal.
Just before the half-time whistle Sinclair had a golden chance to open the scoring at the back post from James Forrest’s cross, but couldn’t get his shot on target.
Gordon was called into action again two minutes into the second-half to keep out Tavernier with a brilliant reaction save and kept Morelos at bay once again on 67 minutes extending a foot to keep out his goal-bound header.
Here are the player ratings from today’s game.
Craig Gordon 7.5/10
Two good save to deny Morelos, one in each half. Very good reaction save to deny Tavernier early in the second half.
Mikael Lustig 3/10
Woeful attempt to clear the ball allowed Rangers through on goal early on. Made too many basic errors costing Celtic possession.
Dedryck Boyata 6/10
Poor defensive line left a number of players in an onside position. Gave away possession with a needless pass and over committed in a challenge in the resulting Rangers attack. Good knock down to Dembele inside the box. Some good clearing tackles in the second half when Rangers threatened.
Kristoffer Ajer 7/10
Won his aerial battles early on. Comfortable taking the ball out from the back and running at the defence. Dealt with Morelos easily in their physical battles.
Kieran Tierney 6.5/10
Cleared his lines from the back well and never shied away from a challenge. Great run down the wing and picked out Forrest on the edge of the area. Continued to overlap Sinclair and find space to do so freely.
Scott Brown 6/10
Not at his dominant best in midfield but came out on top more often than not against a weak opponent.
Stuart Armstrong 5/10
Found time and space in midfield consistently between the lines in the first-half but his end product was lacking at times. Worked well in the defensive phase of the game winning possession a number of times. Rushed his shot on goal and lashed it wide of the target. Frustrating as the game went on squandering possession too easily.
Callum McGregor 5/10
Got at the defence early on forcing players to foul him. Linked the play well from left to right especially in the final third. Two very poor shots on goal when a simple pass to the left wing was the better option.
James Forrest 5.5/10
Shot from the left side went just wide of the far post. Quiet game otherwise and needed to get at John more. Hesitant in possession and gave the ball away too often.
Scott Sinclair 4/10
Good early run at Tavernier to win a corner. Two attempts on goal saved a yard or less from goal. Brilliant run down the line getting past two players but no one could get on the end of his ball across goal. Gave the ball away cheaply which led to Tavernier’s chance.
Moussa Dembele 3.5/10
Good layoff to McGregor for the opening attack of the game. Failed to get enough contact on Boyata’s knock down in front of goal. Hold up play was really poor and couldn’t retain the ball to get Celtic up the field enough.
Leigh Griffiths 4/10
Replaced Dembele with 30 minutes remaining in the game. Didn’t make much impact on the game and lacked confidence.
Olivier Ntcham 6.5/10
Came on for Sinclair with just under 20 minutes left in the game. Involved instantly playing the key passes to open up the defence and create chances. Classy play and footwork, proved he should;ve started the game.
