Lazio interested in signing Simunovic in the summer
Celtic did well to keep hold of their key players during the January transfer window, namely striker Moussa Dembele, but centre-back Jozo Simunovic was also a highly sought-after player last month.
Corriere dello Sport suggested that Serie A side Lazio were interested in signing Simunovic amid fears that their star defender Stefan de Vrij could leave the club, with the likes of Liverpool and Chelsea interested in the centre-back.
With de Vrij rejecting a new contract with the club and poised to become a free agent after this season, Lazio have begun their search for a replacement and they are once again considering a move for Simunovic.
Simunovic recently signed a new contract with Celtic running until 2021 so it’s clear that Brendan Rodgers sees the former Croatia U21 international as a mainstay in his side for the next few years.
Porto defender Diego Reyes is understood to be Lazio’s top target to replace de Vrij but Simunovic is also on their shortlist, but they face an incredibly tough task to persuade Celtic to part ways with one of their most important players.
