Lustig urges Celtic to take confidence from Zenit victory

Mikael Lustig has urged the rest of the Celtic squad to take confidence from their victory over Zenit St Petersburg for the second leg of the tie.

As reported by the Belfast Telegraph, Lustig believes that the squad have a fight on their hands to book their place in the next round, but admits that they’re certainly good enough to advance.

If they didn’t know that we are a good team before they know it now. Of course it is a good result, and to keep a clean sheet and get three points. But the performance probably gives us more confidence, especially the first half. We went straight at them, created a lot of chances and were really solid in defence.

A single goal from Callum McGregor gave Celtic a narrow advantage when the two sides met at Celtic Park on Thursday night.

The Hoops enjoyed large spells of the game and were rewarded for their efforts late on in the second half.

The second leg of the tie is due to take place in Russia on Thursday with the Scottish champions leading, despite Zenit being the overriding favourites to win the tie.

It will be a tough game next week. We are going to be humble, we know we face a really good team but this type of performance gives us more confidence.
