Celtic’ Marvin Compper turned down interest from Bundesliga sides to join the Hoops during the January transfer window.

The Daily Record report that RB Leipzig’s Frank Aehlig, the Bundesliga club’s sporting coordinator and a close friend of the defender, claims several clubs were keen on him.

He could have stayed in the
Bundesliga, a few clubs were keen on him. It isn’t always easy to find the qualities you need in a defender but Marvin has them all.

Compper had fallen out of favour at the Bundesliga outfit and it was Brendan Rodgers who pounced quickest in January.

Signed to add European experience and quality to the back four, Compper put pen to paper on a two-and-a-half-year contract.

Game time has been hard to come by for Compper since joining the club. The 32-year-old has featured just once, against Greenock Morton in the Scottish Cup.

A calf injury has slowed down his start to life at Celtic but the defender is hopeful of playing a key role in the closing stages of the season.
