Newcastle join the race for Abel Hernandez

Newcastle United are reportedly looking at Abel Hernandez as a possible signing for the next summer transfer window, according to The Daily Mail.

Hernandez, currently at Championship side Hull City, has been linked with a move to Celtic in recent weeks as Brendan Rodgers looks to add to his squad.

The forward will become a free agent in the summer, and his recent form has attracted much interest, with Rafa Benitez just one person looking keenly at him.

The Uruguayan international has spent the huge majority of this season out injured but since he has come back, he has scored five goals in seven games.

Hernandez has been at Hull since 2014, but despite being a fan favourite, is very likely to be on his way out of the KCOM.

Benitez, who is coming into the last season of his current contract at St James’ Park, has said that he is keen to strengthen Newcastle United to try and push the Toon up the Premier League table, but has said to Mike Ashley that he can’t perform miracles, and will need financial backing.

However, the signing of Hernandez could seriously improve the attack which currently consists of Ayoze Perez, Joselu and Dwight Gayle, and would be very potent against many Premier League defences, as he has proven before with Hull City.
