Celtic are lining up a summer deal for Newcastle United defender Chancel Mbemba, reports the Newcastle Chronicle.
Brendan Rodgers is looking to freshen his side up after once again winning the Premier League, and the Newcastle player is on his radar.
Mbemba signed for the Magpies in 2015 for £8 million, but has only played a minor role since Rafa Benitez took charge.
The centre-back has played just nine Premier League games this season, and that follows just 12 in the Championship the year before.
A fee for the 23-year-old would likely be low as, despite him having two years left on his contract, it is clear that Benitez deems him to be surplus to requirements.
The Congolese international still has lots to do to reach his potential, and a move to Scotland could help him do that.
Mbemba would likely jump at the chance to leave St James’ Park, especially when European football can be offered to him.
