Brendan Rodgers first worked with the Welshmen at Swansea when Rodgers guided them to the Premier League. In 2012, the Northern Irish boss signed Allen for Liverpool for a fee of £15 million.
With Rodgers a clear fan of the 28-year-old, many considered him a target for the Scottish Premiership champions.
With Stuart Armstrong having just one year left on his current deal at Celtic, his immediate future remains unclear.
However, even if Allen became available for a move, the finances may seem just too far for the Hoops who have already splashed £9 million to sign young striker Odsonne Edouard on a permanent deal from Paris Saint-Germain.
