Ahead of Celtic’s first leg of their Champions League qualifier away to Alashkert FC, we at Read Celtic will role-play and predict the starting XI.
We will be playing the role of Brendan Rodgers and will be choosing the starting XI, as well as predicting how the team will line-up on the pitch.
It also includes a bit of insight into what we expect from each player, and what they can do to make the difference.
It’s the Champions’ first competitive fixture of the 18/19 season, with the Bhoys having played a hand full of friendlies to get back into shape ahead of the new campaign.
Alashkert pile their trade in the Armenian Premier League and play in front of a home crowd of 6,850 in the Alashkert Stadium in the country’s capital, Yerevan.
Here is our predicted eleven in a 3-5-2 formation for Tuesday’s game, which kicks off at 17:00 Celtic Park time.
Has started in three of the four friendlies played so far, so will almost certainly be the chosen number one.
With Lustig and Gamboa resting after World Cup duty, Hendry will likely come in to the side as part of a three man defence.
Has featured regularly in defence during the friendly matches and will do so again on Tuesday.
Was quite unlucky to lose his place in the team at the end of last season but will get an opportunity to earn his spot in the first competitive game of the campaign.
Performed well in a wing-back position that allowed him to get forward to help in attack. Should expect the same type of system on Tuesday night which will hopefully bring goals with it.
There are no doubts that the skipper will be fit and ready to lead his team out on Tuesday night.
Will look to continue performing the way he did last season in the middle of the park.
Bagged a goal in the 7-0 win over Shamrock Rovers and looks in good shape ahead of the match versus Alashkert. Highly likely he’ll start given Tom Rogic is resting after World Cup duty.
Operated as a wing-back against Shamrock Rovers last weekend and impressed. If Rodgers decides to go with the same system on Tuesday, then the pacy winger will be tasked with the same role.
Has been putting the work in at the gym and looks hungry for goals as Tuesday approaches. Got on the score sheet on Saturday and looked a real threat when he got into dangerous positions.
Bagged a brace at the weekend and also looked like he couldn’t wait for the season to get underway. Looks in good shape and seems ready to cause damage up front alongside fellow countryman Dembele.
