Disappointment for Celtic as Denayer set to join Lyon
Jason Denayer is set to join Lyon, despite Celtic being considered the front-runners to land the defender.
The Manchester City centre-back had spent the 2014-15 season on loan at Celtic, where the then 19-year-old made a mammoth 44 appearances in all competitions.
Further loan spells followed at Galatasary, Sunderland, and then Galatasary again for Denayer.
Having not made an appearance for Manchester City in his career, it has been expected that the Belgian would leave the Etihad Stadium this summer.
His destination had been expected to be Celtic, with the Glaswegians’ fans crying out for defensive assistance int he transfer window.
It seems, however, that the Hoops have been pipped to the post by Ligue 1’s Lyon.
Inside Futbol report that eccentric Lyon president Jean-Michel Aulas has claimed he has negotiated the arrival of Denayer, and the Belgian international has already arrived in the French city.
Celtic must continue to search for a defensive signing.
