Celtic manager Brendan Rodgers has revealed why Filip Benkovic was not in the starting line-up against Kilmarnock.

Speaking to The Daily Record, via HITC, Rodgers claimed that Benkovic suffered a knock in the warm-up and was not able to start.

Jack Hendry was forced to start against Kilmarnock, with Celtic losing 2-1 – their second league defeat of the season.

Celtic sit 5th in the division and Brendan Rodgers is facing a tough task to show the fans that there is still reason to be positive.

It’s not ideal but you have to get on with it. Filip felt his Achilles in the warm-up and he was too much of a risk.

He felt he couldn’t continue and we had to make the change. That’s why we have a squad though and why we ask players to be ready.

Benkovic signed for Celtic on deadline day from Leicester on a season-long loan and has impressed at centre-back for the Hoops.
