Former Celtic midfielder Beram Kayal has backed Kieran Tierney to come back stronger, after his own goal was the difference between Israel and Scotland on Thursday night, the Sunday Post report.

Kayal, who spent five years at Celtic Park before leaving for Brighton & Hove Albion in 2015, started for Israel in the UEFA Nations League game, and his cross in the 75th minute was sliced into the net by the Celtic left-back.

Tierney’s error proved to be the match winner for Israel, handing new coach Andi Herzog his first win in charge.

Despite the mistake, Kayal, who featured with Tierney briefly with Celtic before leaving for Brighton, heaped praise on the full back and believes the Scot will come back stronger.

Kieran was unlucky. I saw our striker and aimed for him, but my cross was nothing special until his touch.

So I am happy it ended up a goal.
But he is a good player with Celtic, and is really pushing himself forward in the game.

He will come back, and I also believe Scotland as a team has the potential to play better.

Kayal, 30, also admitted he cannot wait for the return fixture in Scotland, heaping praise on the Celtic fans in the process.

I have been in the UK for nine years now, but I am still one of the Celtic Bhoys. It is an amazing club.

I was just a young boy when I first went to Celtic, and the memories of the club, of Glasgow, and of the fans will never leave me.
