After Celtic’s win against Hearts on Sunday, the Hoops set up a clash with Aberdeen in this year’s Betfred Cup final.
Callum McGregor revealed, however, that he was looking forward to a final with Rangers and was disappointed they didn’t make it through.
Steven Gerrard’s side were beaten my Aberdeen at Hampden, with Lewis Ferguson’s 79th minute goal sinking them to semi-final defeat.
Some fans will understandably be delighted that the Dons knocked Celtic’s rivals out, but not for McGregor, who had his heart set on an ‘incredible’ Celtic v Rangers finale.
The playmaker said:
We’ve not had an Old Firm final for a good few years so it would have been incredible to be involved in that.
Despite the fact it’s not the game that the Scot wanted, he’s still optimistic yet cautious ahead of another crunch match with Derek McInnes’ side.

It’s Aberdeen again and it’s a tough game. We have a good record against them in finals in recent years.
We have to prepare properly to arrive at that game with confidence to make sure we get the job done.
The showpiece takes place on December 2nd, but before then, Brendan Rodgers and his side have a lot to overcome – not least a crucial game against RB Leipzig a week on Thursday at Parkhead.
As well as that, there’s the six point deficit to Hearts in the league that the staff and players will want to be far lower by the time the final rolls around.
