It was a pretty horrific Halloween for Dundee as Celtic cruised to a thumping 5-0 victory without any scares.
Tom Rogic got the goal-scoring going after the visitors dominated the early stages of the game. The Aussie picked up the ball just outside the box and curled a beautiful effort out of the reach of Jack Hamilton.
Rogic was again involved for the second. Mikael Lustig rampaged forward and latched onto Rogic’s flicked pass and was knocked down by a slight contact from Ryan Inniss with referee Alan Muir pointing to the spot. Scott Sinclair stepped up and duly slotted the ball home.
Not long after, it was game over. Callum McGregor spread the ball out wide for Kieran Tierney who picked out James Forrest, who finished brilliantly into the far corner.
Jim McIntyre’s first half dismay was complete when Odsonne Edouard flicked in Forrest’s pullback as Celtic really started to hit top gear.
The scoring didn’t stop into the second half when Ryan Christie latched onto Edouard’s ball through and finished low into the net.
Here’s how we rated the Celtic players after this demolition in Dundee:
Craig Gordon: 6
Didn’t have a save to make on his return to the side. Even managed a nutmeg in a very quiet 90 minutes.
Mikael Lustig: 7
Won the penalty for the second goal after a brilliant exchange with Rogic. Was solid in defence and joined the attack well following on from his good display on Sunday.
Dedryck Boyata: 7
Dealt with Dundee’s very limited attacking force well and contributed to yet another clean sheet this season. Was replaced by Ajer with 20 minutes left on the clock as he looked to have picked up a slight knock.
Filip Benkovic: 7
Strolled the game alongside Boyata then Ajer in as easy a game as he will ever play in Scotland.
Kieran Tierney: 7
Provided a driven assist for James Forrest to make it three. Attacked well alongside his wing partner Sinclair and saw off his few defensive duties well enough. Sent a great chance wide of the post from Arzani’s second-half cross.
Callum McGregor: 7
Controlled the game in the holding role and kept the ball moving fast across the slick Dens Park surface.
Tom Rogic: 7
His sublime curling shot opened the scoring on twenty minutes and he was involved in a lot of Celtic’s best attacking moves before he was taken off.
Ryan Christie: 7
Saw an early rasping drive tipped over by Hamilton. Continued his recent good form as he ran onto Edouard’s through ball to slide in another goal this week.
James Forrest: 8
Poked home for the away side’s third after good wing play from Tierney. Moved into the striker’s role when Edouard was subbed off.
Scott Sinclair: 7
Stroked home the penalty so cooly to make it 2-0. Linked well with Tierney down the left throughout the game.
Odsonne Edouard: 7
Made it 4-0 on the stroke of half-time with a lovely flick into the net from Forrest’s pull back, his ninth goal of the campaign.
(Sub) Lewis Morgan: 5
Came on for Rogic after 55 minutes but couldn’t really add to the performance with the three points already in the bag.
(Sub) Daniel Arzani:6
Handed his much-awaited first-team debut as he replaced Edouard on 55 minutes. Nearly had an instant impact with a great ball across the face of goal but Tierney couldn’t finish. However, he picked up what looks to be a serious injury and he had to be stretchered off the pitch, a real shame for the young Australian.
(Sub) Kristoffer Ajer: 6
Replaced Boyata towards the end of the game with Celtic in cruise control. Had very little to do.
