Midfielder Adrien Trebel says he was in advanced negotiations with Celtic about a possible transfer to the club and that he would likely have joined the Hoops if they were willing to pay the €10m asking price.

The Anderlecht star, who played against the Hoops a few weeks ago, was asked by Dutch outlet HLN if there was any truth in the stories that Celtic, Hertha Berlin and Porto wanted to sign him in the summer, and the player admitted that there was.

He said:

I even had a personal agreement with Porto, I was also well advanced with the other teams you mentioned, but nobody wanted to pay the asking price. I’m at peace with it.

That fee was reportedly €10m, which would have made the Frenchman Celtic’s most expensive player of all time had it been met, but the powers that be at the Scottish champions decided that they were unwilling to meet Anderlecht’s demands.
