Lineker was offered Celtic trial
Gary Lineker could have been a Celtic player.
On his weekly Behind Closed Doors podcast with Danny Baker, the famous England striker revealed that Celtic were one of three clubs to offer him a trial when he was still a schoolboy.
The Leicester-native would go on to play for his hometown club, and claimed that it wasn’t really a difficult decision.
Quoted by The Scotsman, Lineker said:
I got asked to go for trials for three clubs – Leicester, Leeds and the other might have been Celtic. But I never went to the other two because I just wanted to play for Leicester. I’d have been about 12.
How will Celtic fare against Hamilton next weekend?
Win
Draw
Loss
The forward would go on to have an incredibly successful career at both the domestic and international level, but never did pull on the famous green and white hoops.
But even at the age of 12, Celtic knew that he would be something special.
