Celtic claimed their first ever away victory in the Europa League with a narrow but comfortable 1-0 win over Rosenborg to go second in Group B with just one game remaining. Scott Sinclair scored the decisive goal just before half-time to seal all three points in Trondheim.
The Hoops started brightly and enjoyed the bulk of possession early on. Shots from Tom Rogic and Ryan Christie came close to seeing them ahead.
Despite Celtic’s dominance, Rosenborg reminded them of the danger they possess. Yann Erik de Lanlay won the ball off Sinclair and whipped a great cross across the box for Nicklas Bendtner but the Dane couldn’t stretch far enough.
James Forrest was next to come close on the half-hour mark as he drove down the left side and forced a good save from Andre Hansen. Christie then rolled in Odsonne Edouard but he could only drag the ball well wide as Celtic needed to be far more clinical in attacking areas.
As frustration was creeping into the game for Celtic, Forrest really found his form. Out on the right, he took on the Rosenborg centre-half, got the byline to stand a delightful ball up to Sinclair at the back post who kept his cool to head home.
In the second half, Rosenborg came back into things as Celtic again wasted a couple of good attacking chances.
Headers from Samuel Adegbenro and Tore Reginiussen dropped wide as the hosts searched for the equaliser.
Brendan Rodgers’ men could have made things a lot easier for themselves with a second goal but ultimately deserved the win, with Rosenborg hardly threatening despite the one-goal margin.
