Samir Memisevic has confirmed that Celtic have made contact over a move and he is weighing up his options.
As reported by the Daily Record, the Groningen defender has revealed that Brendan Rodgers’ side are interested in signing him.
Memisevic has long been linked with a move to Celtic after impressing in the Netherlands.
Celtic fans will have fond memories of the Dutch club as it was the same team that Virgil van Dijk made the move from to join the Hoops.
While rumours of a move to Scotland have slowed down of late, with the January window approaching Memisevic has revealed that he needs to weigh up a move away.
As far as Celtic is concerned, there was contact. However, there is still nothing concrete been offered. So for the moment it’s just talk. But there are a lot of other clubs interested too because my contract expires soon.
Groningen want to extend my contract and have offered me a new three-year deal. For me, it’s a very important time and I need to think very carefully about what is the best option for me and my career.
Celtic are likely to be in the market for a central defender over the coming months.
With Filip Benkovic only on loan from Leicester City and Dedryck Boyata still yet to put to paper on a new deal, the Hoops could lose two senior defenders at the end of the season.
