Tom Rogic has hit out at Football Federation Australia for not allowing him to play for Celtic against Rangers in the Old Firm Derby this weekend.
The FFA and Celtic were recently embroiled in discussions to extend Rogic’s stay in Glasgow before he departed to join Australia ahead of the 2019 Asian Cup in the new year.
Celtic and Brendan Rodgers were left frustrated however when the FFA refused to allow the Hoops to keep him a few more days, despite Australia not due to face Jordan until January 6.
The playmaker has established himself as a key player at Paradise over the last few years, and Rodgers will undoubtedly be lamenting his absence ahead of the biggest derby in world football.
And Rogic, 26, was quick to criticise the FFA’s decision, claiming that he wanted and was able to both play for Celtic, and be ready and prepared for Australia’s game early next month.
Taking to Instagram, Rogic posted a photo of himself celebrating a win at Ibrox, with the caption reading:
I’m very disappointed to be missing the game on the 29th. A decision has been made but I did everything in my power to stay for the match.
I am a proud Australian but also love my club. It should never have been a debate between playing for club or country, ideally it would have been for both.
Another challenge awaits in the Asian Cup, where I will give my all and proudly represent my country.
