On this day in 2011, Celtic played out a nervy 1-1 draw with Hamilton.
A curious game saw the Hoops reduced to ten men after James Forrest’s red card, and it required a cool head from Anthony Stokes in the 92nd minute to convert an equalising penalty.
In our new series ‘Celtic versus’, roll back the years with these special matches against Hamilton Academical:
League - 19/01/2016: 8-1
A frigid January day in early 2016 saw Celtic secure one of their most comprehensive victories in the club’s history. Ronny Delia’s side were 4-0 up after 22 minutes. Leigh Griffiths bagged a hat-trick that day – a sight Hoops fans long to see once again
League - 16/11/2008: 2-1
Celtic travelled to New Douglas Park in 2008 needing a positive result for their league title push (which would ultimately fall short), and they dug one out in heroic fashion. Fighting back from 1-0 down, Paul Hartley bagged the winner in the 86th minute. Were you in the away end that day?
League - 04/10/2008: 4-0
The first time the clubs had played each other in over 17 years, and it was a convincing ‘golden era’ Celtic win. There were goals for Shunsuke Nakamura, Georgios Samaras, Scott McDonald, and Jan Vennegoor of Hesselink.
League - 5/11/1988: 8-0
In another lopsided result, this match saw Celtic smash Hamilton to pieces under the guidance of Billy McNeill. Two players scored hat-tricks that day; Frank McAvennie and Mark McGhee on target.
Cup - 30/1/1985: 2-1
Celtic’s 1985 cup campaign (which would culminate with victory at Hampden Park) started with a trip to Douglas Park. It wasn’t a straight forward affair for the Hoops, as Frank McGarvey came off the bench to score both goals in a 2-1 victory.
League Cup - 11/09/1968: 10-0
This game saw Celtic lay down the hammer in the first leg of a 1968 League Cup tie. There were five goals for Stevie Chalmers that day, and five for Bobby Lennox. One to ask your Grandad about, this one!
