Celtic are unlikely to pursue a deal to sign Timothy Castagne this month, with the player not keen on a move to Scotland.
As reported by the Daily Star, Castagne had emerged as a £6 million transfer target for the Hoops this month, with the player looking like a long-term replacement for Mikael Lustig.
Doubts have arisen about the latter’s immediate future at the club and Celtic are known to be in the market for his successor.
However, interest in the Belgian international has risen, with teams in England, Germany and Italy also keen.
Championship side Swansea City are among the teams to be heavily linked with Castagne.
It is now believed that Atalanta are looking for a fee in the region of £10 million this month.
The higher asking price and the player’s reluctance to move to Scotland mean that the Hoops are now looking to move on to alternative transfer targets.
Brendan Rodgers remains keen to strengthen at the back this month and has since been linked with a move to sign Omar Elabdellaoui from Olympiakos.
