Nelson Rodriguez, the general manager of MLS side Chicago Fire, says defender Andrew Gutman has rejected the chance to join his club as he is going to sign for Celtic.
Gutman was on trial with Rangers late last year, but rather than joining Steven Gerrard’s side, he will instead join their fierce rivals instead.
The left-back came through the US collegiate system and was recently awarded the MAC Hermann Trophy, which is awarded to the best US college player each year.
As an Illinois native, Gutman could have signed for the Fire as a homegrown player and the MLS side did give him the opportunity to sign with them by offering a contract.
However, as reported in the Daily Record, Rodriguez revealed that the 22-year-old rejected the offer from Chicago as he’s going to sign for Scottish champions.
Andrew was offered a contract but chose not to accept it. Instead, he decided to go with the offer from Celtic so good luck to him.
The full-back is expected to be revealed as a Celtic player sometime this week.
