Celtic boss Brendan Rodgers has revealed his frustration, despite the Hoops putting five past St Johnstone.

Speaking to Premier Sports after the game, as reported by the Daily Record, Rodgers explained why the Hoops’ performance was not quite how he hoped.

Yeah it was an outstanding result for us and for long parts of the game we played really well. Like I said before the game, I felt this was a game that would reveal the mentality and character of the team having played St Johnstone four times before this is the fifth time.

So I thought we played very well up until 25 minutes, then we go 2-0 up and we seemed to lose our shape, and our positioning. Then it was a little bit bitty so I wasn’t pleased at half time even though we had played well for the first 25 minutes.

Three goals from Scott Sinclair and efforts from Scott Brown and James Forrest saw the Hoops advance.

While Rodgers may not be completely pleased with the performance, the result is certainly a good warm-up for the club ahead of their Europa League meeting with Valencia on Thursday night.

The victory will raise spirits around the club as the Hoops prepare to welcome the Spanish side to Parkhead for the first leg of the tie.

Celtic will no doubt be hoping for more of the same when the La Liga outfit travel to Scotland.
