Celtic made £8.8m offer to sign Timothy Castagne
Celtic made an offer of £8.8 million for Atalanta defender Timothy Castagne during the January window.
Sky Italy’s Gianluca Di Marzio has confirmed that Celtic made a big offer to sign the Belgian but ultimately missed out on his services.
Castagne was one of Celtic’s key targets during the January window, with Brendan Rodgers keen to strengthen defensively.
The right-back position was one area in particular that the club had been looking to address.
Mikael Lustig and Cristian Gamboa are both approaching the end of their contracts with the club and neither have done enough in recent months to warrant new deals.

It became clear that Celtic would be priced out of a deal to sign Castagne in the new year, despite their respectable offer.
The Hoops instead moved on to German defender Jeremy Toljan, who joined the club on loan from Borussia Dortmund until the end of the season.
