Hibernian defender Darnell Johnson banned for two games after his horror challenge on Celtic full-back Emilio Izaguirre.

The defender, on loan from Leicester City, will now miss the Premiership fixtures at home to Hamilton Academical and away to Dundee.

Referee Craig Thomson booked Johnson for the challenge on the Celtic left-back, one that led to him being stretchered off the field, but the authorities decided that further punishment was required and as such, they’ve decided to uphold a two-game ban, despite Hibs’ protests.

A hearing took place at Hampden Park on Tuesday afternoon after Hibs contested the proposed ban but the decision was made to keep the ban in place.

Hibs and Celtic will meet again at Easter Road in the Scottish Cup quarter-finals in March and Johnson will be available for selection in that game.

Celtic will hope to have Kieran Tierney at left-back in that match but there’s a chance Izaguirre could be needed.
