Celtic swept aside the challenge from Motherwell as goals from Scott Sinclair, and Oliver Burke sandwiched an Odsonne Edouard brace in a hotly-contested match.
The visitors started well as the Hoops struggled to break down the wall of claret shirts but their resistance was eventually broken after a delightful cross from Ryan Christie was volleyed home by Sinclair at the back post.
Another great ball into the box, this time by young Ewan Henderson, saw Celtic double their lead as Edouard got across his man to net with a header.
In a bizarre moment not long into the second period, Motherwell pulled one back. With Celtic having kicked the ball out for an injury, the visitors threw the ball down the line before James Scott ran through on goal. Scott Bain saved his shot, but Gboly Ariyibi was there to roll in the rebound, much to the anger of the home players and fans.
It was poor sportsmanship from Motherwell, and they will be disappointed that this was the best they could muster going forward.
Brendan Rodgers’ men restored parity late on in the game with Edouard crashing a brilliant free-kick in off the bar and substitute Oliver Burke wrapping things up with a thumping finish past Mark Gillespie.
Justice was eventually done as Stephen Robinson’s side got what they deserved. Their goal put a sour note on what was otherwise a pretty good performance at Parkhead.
Here’s how we rated the players after the 4-1 victory.
