Celtic have revealed their disappointment at the behaviour of a section of supporters after Tuesday’s 2-1 win at Hearts.
A video of a sick chant aimed at former manager Brendan Rodgers surfaced online, following his exit from Parkhead earlier in the week.
Supporters were heard singing, “I hope you die in your sleep Brendan Rodgers with a bullet from the IRA”.
Celtic have been swift to express their disgust at the chant, releasing the following statement:
We have no knowledge of who these individuals are, or any connection they have to Celtic, but one thing is certain, such disgusting and pathetic behaviour would never have any place at our club and of course we condemn this completely.
As we have already said, we thank Brendan for his outstanding and historic contribution to the Club and we wish him well for the future.
We welcome Neil back to Celtic and now is the time to move forward.
Rodgers’ decision to become Leicester City’s new boss midway through a potentially record-breaking season at Celtic has not gone down.
With the Hoops on the verge of completing the ‘treble treble’, the 46-year-old was expected to at least stay until the end of the season.
He has gone from a hero to a villain overnight in the eyes of many, but such horrible chants should forever be condemned.
Rodgers gave his all during his time at Celtic, winning every major domestic trophy on offer and playing an attractive brand of attacking football.
