On Monday, we asked Read Celtic readers to travel back through the years and look at some of the club’s worst pieces of transfer business.
There have been some memorable arrivals, big transfers fees and some outright flops over the years.
After compiling a host of contenders, we put each player off against each other in a duel, asking you, Celtic supporters, to vote for who you believed to be the worst signing the club has made.
Thousands upon thousands of votes were cast and opinions were definitely split, but there can only be one winner or loser, whichever way you want to look at it.
Here are the top 10 worst Celtic signings, as voted for by the fans.
10: Roy Keane - 32%
Coming in at number 10 is Roy Keane, who won 32% of his duels. Big things were expected of Keane at Celtic as one of the more high-profile names to make the move up north, but it never quite worked out for him at the club.
9: Amido Balde - 38%
Signed on a long-term deal from Portuguese side Vitoria Guimaraes, Amido Balde is up there with the biggest transfer flops the club have seen. He drew comparisons to Emmanuel Adebayor, but in reality, he was anything but close to the former Arsenal and Real Madrid striker.
8: Stuart Slater - 39%
Signed for what was then a record £1.5 million from West Ham, there were big hopes for Slater. However, after just scored three goals in 43 appearances he would return to England just 13 months after signing for the Hoops.
7: Oliver Kapo - 48%
Oliver Kapo was a relatively big name but left Celtic after just three months. His whole departure was messy, with Celtic stating they terminated his deal and Kapo denying such claims. A player who had spent time at Juventus and Monaco simply did not live up to expectation.
6: Mo Bangura - 49%
Henrik Larsson’s biggest mistake. The Swedish hero advised Celtic to bring in Bangura and that they did. A cool £2.5 million from Swedish side AIK, Bangura joined on a four-year deal. During his time at the club, he failed to score and never looked good enough. He was swiftly moved on.
5: Steven Mouyokolo - 52%
Steven Mouyokolo, on the face of it, looked like it could have been a shrewd piece of business after joining on a free from Wolves. However, injuries hampered his time at the club and he comes in as Celtic’s fifth-worst signing.
4: Du Wei - 63%
A loan signing from Chinese side Shanghai Shenua, possibly in a bid to expand Celtic’s presence in the Asian market, but it seriously backfired. Wei made just one appearance for the Hoops and that was all the club needed to see from him. He was never going to be good enough and it’s a move the club look back on with much regret.
3: Derk Boerrigter - 63%
The Dutchman saw his Celtic career plagued by injuries and the former Ajax man did no less than confirm he stayed at the club because of his impressive wage packet. Something that did not sit well with the fans and he comes in at number three.
2: Marvin Compper - 71%
Marvin Compper is the most recent signing made by Celtic to make the top 10 and the only player currently at the club. Brendan Rodgers spent £1 million to bring in the German defender from RB Leipzig and you can still count his Hoops appearances on one hand.
1: Rafael Scheidt - 82%
The overriding winner (or loser) was Rafael Scheidt, who won 82% of his duels in our vote. Regarded by many as the club’s worst ever signing, he made just five appearances for the club. Ex-Celtic man Craig Burley described him as the ‘big hopeless Brazilian’, as he described his fury at being sold so the club could fund a move for Scheidt.
