Celtic target Timothy Castagne is being linked with a move to Serie A giants AS Roma.
The Belgian recently confirmed that the Hoops had made a January approach to sign him from Atalanta but were unsuccessful in their efforts, with the Italian side demanding a significant fee.
There has since been an influx of interest from across Europe, with Castagne set to be hot property in the upcoming summer transfer window.
According to claims from Rai Sport, as cited in a report from Calciomercato, Roma have joined their fellow Italian heavyweights AC Milan in the race to sign the Belgian.
Castagne has operated as a right wing-back for Atalanta this season and appeared to have been a genuine target for Celtic during the January transfer window.
However, after seemingly baulking at Gian Piero Gasperini’s side’s valuation of the versatile wide man, they pursued other options, with Jeremy Toljan arriving on a short-term loan deal from Borussia Dortmund.
Alternative right-sided defenders who Celtic could target in the summer
Maehle is among Europe’s best right wing-backs. He’s been fantastic for Genk this season and would slot in at Celtic well.
James has been exceptional in the Championship for Wigan Athletic. Celtic would be wise to pursue the Chelsea youngster on a loan deal.
Mbabu has consistently performed for Young Boys in Switzerland. His attacking qualities would add a lot to Celtic’s squad.
Clyne doesn’t appear to have a future at Liverpool and, should he be willing to take a pay cut, would be a high-quality addition for Celtic.
