Leigh Griffiths stepping up Celtic comeback with double sessions
Interim Celtic boss Neil Lennon has revealed that striker Leigh Griffiths is desperate to feature for the Hoops before the end of the season and is doing double training sessions as a result, according to the Herald, cited by HITC.
The 28-year-old, who joined the club from Wolves in 2014, hasn’t featured in a first-team squad since December due to personal reasons.
However, Griffiths, who scored a career-best 40 times for Celtic during the 2015-16 campaign under Ronny Deila, is hoping to be available for selection against Hearts in the Scottish Cup final at Hampden Park next month.
And talking to the media during the week, Lennon gave a positive admission when asked about Griffiths’ situation.
He is in training twice a day on his own at the minute. He still has to be integrated into the group so he is still a week or two away from that.
It is a slow, meticulous routine of conditioning so he doesn’t break down again.
Having the natural goalscorer back fit and around the squad ahead of the Scottish Cup final could be crucial.
The match will more than likely be the last leg of Celtic’s historic domestic ‘treble treble’, and it would only be fitting to have Griffiths in the matchday squad.
