Celtic legend Pat Bonner believes his former side need to move away from the successful style of play Brendan Rodgers implemented during his time in charge of the club, unless they can find someone who will look to play in a similar way.

Current interim boss Neil Lennon has come under criticism in recent weeks following two consecutive 0-0 draws in the Scottish Premiership against Livingston and Hibernian respectively, despite the Hoops being unbeaten under his stewardship thus far.

And Bonner believes Lennon has kept Celtic ticking along well in the aftermath of Rodgers’ departure but claims his former side must replace the temporary boss with someone who will play a similar style to Rodgers’ way of playing or change the system completely.

Speaking to BBC Sportsound, Bonner said:

He’s filled in a gap, he’s done okay, and he’s kept them going. But you can’t bring a manager in and tell them, ‘you have to play the same way Brendan Rodgers did’. You have to find someone who is close to Brendan Rodgers or you’ve got to then change it.

Celtic need just four more points to lift the Scottish Premiership for the eighth successive season in a row, and victory in the league and Scottish Cup final would see the Hoops win a third successive domestic treble.
