Championship side Wigan Athletic have offered midfielder Nick Powell an improved contract, amid interest from Celtic.
According to Wigan Today, the club have decided to increase their initial contract offer in an attempt to stop him leaving.
Powell’s current contract expires this summer and reports have claimed that Celtic, Derby, Norwich and Burnley are all interested in signing him on a free transfer.
Celtic are yet to know who will be managing them permanently next summer, but they are already planning ahead for the upcoming transfer window – with Powell being one of their reported targets.
However, this news will come as a blow to Celtic as Wigan Today report that Wigan are hopeful of the improved offer being enough to get Powell to put pen to paper on a new deal.
Powell has impressed for Wigan in the last two seasons, scoring 15 in League One last year and scoring eight times in the Championship this term.
Championship players Celtic could sign
The Bristol City centre-back has been brilliant this season in the Championship.
Wilson has been on loan to Derby in the Championship this season and Celtic could look to snap him up from Liverpool.
The talented midfielder would be a great addition to Celtic’s team.
The experienced shot-stopper would be the best goalkeeper in the league.
