Celtic will not pursue a permanent deal to sign German defender Jeremy Toljan from Borussia Dortmund.

According to a report from Football Insider, the defender has been told he is free to return to his parent club after the Scottish Cup final.

Toljan has impressed in spells since joining the club in January, but has been largely inconsistent and looked out of his depths in Scotland.

Former manager Brendan Rodgers confirmed at the time that he is a player that had been on the club’s radar for some time, but he has done little to warrant a permanent move during his loan spell.

Celtic fans had hoped that Toljan could be the club’s long-term solution to the right-back spot, but that does not appear to be the case.

With concerns over Mikael Lustig’s long-term future at the club, it’s a position that the Hoops will be looking to strengthen as they aim to build on this season’s success.
