Celtic face competition from Premier League outfit Wolverhampton Wanderers in their pursuit of the highly rated Edson Alvarez.

Alvarez has impressed in recent seasons for Club America in the Liga MX, making over 100 appearances for the Mexican side, and the versatile defender has attracted interest from Celtic.

However, according to Mexican news outlet Medio Tempo, Wolves look set to rival the Hoops in the race for the 21-year-old, while Dutch giants Ajax and PSV Eindhoven are also both keen on signing the defender.

Alvarez is capable of playing in central defence as well as at right-back, and the versatile youngster has also featured in midfield in recent games.

The 21-year-old has already made 22 appearances for Mexico and reportedly has a release clause of £8million in his contract with Club America.

Celtic may have to act quickly in their pursuit of Alvarez, however, with the report in Medio Tempo suggesting Wolves have already begun negotiations over a move for the defender.
