Celtic’s chances of signing Filip Bekovic this summer may have been given a boost by Leicester City’s pursuit of Lewis Dunk, as they seek a potential replacement for Harry Maguire.
According to TEAMtalk, the Foxes have agreed a £30million deal with Brighton for the defender, meaning they could be open to allowing Benkovic to leave this summer.
The 21-year-old impressed for the Hoops during his loan last season, making 30 appearances in all competitions despite being ruled out for over a month with an ankle injury, and scoring twice in the league.
The Hoops are understandably eyeing a move for the centre-back once again this summer, and the Foxes’ pursuit of Dunk could result in Leicester allowing Benkovic to leave the club.
The defender is currently away on international duty with Croatia’s Under-21 side, as they prepare to kick off their U21 European Championship campaign against Romania next Tuesday, before facing France and England respectively in the group stages.
Benkovic's career so far
Benkovic came through the ranks at Dinamo Zagreb, where he went on to make 76 appearances in all competitions.
The defender signed for Leicester last summer for a fee in the region of £13million, and the Croatian made his debut as a substitute in the Carabao Cup against Fleetwood Town.
Benkovic joined Celtic on loan following his Leicester debut, and was part of the side who completed the famous treble treble last season.
The defender has represented Croatia at U17, U18, U19 and U21 level, but is yet to make his senior debut for last years World Cup finalists.
