Stoke City have reportedly agreed a fee in the region of £2m for Barnsley defender Liam Lindsay.
According to the Daily Mail, Lindsay, who has been heavily linked with a move to Celtic Park over the past six months, will now undergo a medical ahead of a move to Staffordshire.
West Brom, Derby and Middlesbrough were also thought to be interested in the player ahead of a summer switch.
The 23-year-old played a key role in the Tykes’ immediate return to the Championship under Daniel Stendel last season, turning out 46 times in all competitions last season.
The Scot had been tipped to make the move to Celtic this summer to replace the void left by Dedryck Boyata, however, it now appears as if Neil Lennon will miss out on the highly-rated defender.
A £2m move for Lindsay would have been a shrewd piece of business by the Hoops, but it now looks like the ‘treble treble’ winners will have to look elsewhere to bolster their defensive options.
Four more defenders linked with a move to Celtic this summer
French teenager Gassama has been linked with a surprise move to Celtic this summer. The 18-year-old currently plies his trade within Nantes’ academy and is also being monitored by Southampton.
Another French defender, Toulouse’s Jullien has been tipped to make the move to Scotland this summer, however, the Hoops will reportedly face competition from Celta Vigo.
Former Hoops right-back Matthews has recently been released by Sunderland, and Celtic are thought to be considering bringing the player back to Scotland ahead of the new season.
Kilmarnock left-back Taylor has been linked with a move to join up with Neil Lennon if star defender Kieran Tierney does make a move to the Premier League this summer.
