Celtic got their Champions League qualifying campaign off to the perfect start after goals from Mikey Johnston, Odsonne Edouard and Scott Sinclair saw them run out 3-1 winners against FK Sarajevo after an early scare.
Despite the Hoops dominating the early possession, it was the hosts who carved out the first chance of the game.
A ball in behind Boli Bolingoli-Mbombo allowed Sarajevo’s front-man in on goal, but Scott Bain stood up well to block the effort.
Before the half-hour mark, Celtic found themselves a goal down. A mix-up at the back saw Jozo Simunovic give away a needless corner that was delivered into a great area before Mirkos Oremus eventually slammed home from close range.
Sarajevo looked dangerous after this on the break, with the home fans making plenty of noise, but they were soon silenced six minutes later.
Mikey Johnston cut inside with some tidy footwork before unleashing a stunning strike into the top corner from outside the box to equalise and calm things down for the visitors.
James Forrest nearly took advantage of a lull in the Bosnian side’s efforts as he ran through on goal but couldn’t find the top corner.
Not long into the second period, the visitors went in front through Edouard’s cool finish inside the box.
With five minutes remaining, Sinclair looked to have settled the tie with his side’s third when Morgan’s cross found him in the six-yard area, and the Englishman pulled off a cheeky backheel to score.
It was a professional display from Neil Lennon’s men after going behind in Bosnia, and they should be comfortable sealing the deal at Parkhead next Wednesday.
Here are our player ratings.
Scott Bain: 7
Did really well not to overcommit early on as he blocked well. Could do nothing about the opening goal.
Kristoffer Ajer: 7
Played on the right side of a back three and wasn’t really troubled. Looked at ease throughout.
Nir Bitton: 7
Somehow always manages to make an appearance in these hugely important games. Did well and was comfortable on the ball but shouldn’t be relied upon in further rounds with the likes of Christopher Jullien set to be fit.
Jozo Simunovic: 6
Gave away the needless corner which led to the goal in the first half. Needs to cut these mistakes out of his game.
Boli Bolingoli-Mbombo: 6
Fairly solid debut for the Belgian, who played more as a wing-back. Seemed far more keen on attacking than defending but was rarely tested going backwards.
A worrying sign for Neil Lennon, though, as he limped off after 56 minutes with an injury and was replaced by Jonny Hayes.
Scott Brown: 6
Was late to the ball on a couple of occasions. However, he coped well in the middle overall.
Callum McGregor: 6
Pretty quiet game from the Scot. He kept things ticking over in the background for his team.
Ryan Christie: 7
Looked lively throughout the game and was keen to make things happen. Saw a couple of strikes well saved by the goalkeeper.
He was lucky not to pick up an injury after being on the end of some wild challenges.
James Forrest: 6
A nice pass put Edouard in for his goal. Could have had a goal of his own in the first half as he ran into the box and fired just over with the outside of his foot.
Mikey Johnston: 8
A standout for Celtic coming off the left-hand side. Looked very confident to take on his man at every opportunity.
Got Celtic back on track with a terrific long-range effort, but, unfortunately, like Bolingoli, his night came to a premature end as he limped off injured.
Odsonne Edouard: 7
Needed to be braver to challenge Oremus as he slammed home for the opener. Showed great composure to take his time and calmly find the net for his team’s second.
(SUB) Jonny Hayes: 6
Coped well as he filled in at left-back. He will hope to make the most of the chances he receives.
(SUB) Lewis Morgan: 6
Replaced the injured Johnston for just his 14th appearance in a Celtic shirt. Looked pretty confident and provided an assist for Sinclair.
(SUB) Scott Sinclair: 6
Came off the bench to find the net and make the second leg a whole lot easier. It was an excellent finish.
