Celtic are reportedly planning an ambitious move for Middlesbrough striker Britt Assombalonga, according to the Football Insider.
The report suggests that Neil Lennon is keen on bringing in another striker ahead of the new season, with Odsonne Edouard and Leigh Griffiths the two senior strikers currently on the books at Celtic Park.
Assombalonga has proven his natural goalscoring ability with both Nottingham Forest and Middlesbrough in recent years and has caught the eye of Lennon.
A number of sides are interested in the DR Congo international, with Celtic now ready to make a move for the 26-year-old.
Assombalonga has found the back of the net 115 times during his seven-year professional career, with the player costing Boro’ £15 million back in 2017.
It remains to be seen how much Celtic are willing to offer for the forward, who has two years left on his current contract, however, the Hoops seem to be showing major intent during the current window.
Four alternative forwards Lennon could target
Swansea striker McBurnie netted 22 times in the Championship last season and would provide Lennon with a constant outlet and a natural goalscoring ability.
Newcastle striker Gayle would be an ambitious target, however, the dynamic forward would guarantee plenty of goals at Celtic Park.
Bournemouth’s Mousset has been linked with a move to Celtic Park and could be another the Northern Irishman looks at this summer.
Portsmouth’s Lowe looks set to leave Fratton Park after an outstanding individual campaign last season. The 24-year-old would bring plenty of pace and versatility to Lennon’s side.
