Celtic are showing a surprise interest in Newcastle United goalkeeper Freddie Woodman – but do they really need him?
According to The Chronicle, cited by Sportslens, the Scottish champions are showing a ‘solid interest’ in the 22-year-old, who has just 12 months left on his current Magpies deal.
Two unnamed Championship sides, along with Premier League giants Arsenal, are also tracking the goalkeeper, with Newcastle expected to make a decision on his immediate future in the coming days.
Woodman looks set to leave on loan for the upcoming campaign and could then be released by the Premier League side next summer.

There is no doubting Woodman has the qualities to succeed at the top level. The England Under 21 international has gained valuable senior experience on loan with Crawley Town, Kilmarnock and Aberdeen over the past three years.
However, Celtic already have Scott Bain, Craig Gordon and Conor Hazard on the books at Celtic Park and recently signed 16-year-old Tobi Oluwayemi from Tottenham Hotspur, so Neil Lennon certainly isn’t short of options between the sticks.
A move for Woodman on a potential free transfer next summer could be a smart one, but the Hoops look to have their options covered in goal for the upcoming campaign so may decide against bringing the shot-stopper on to Celtic Park on a season-long loan.
