Celtic fear Lille’s new found wealth could see them lose Simunovic
Arsenal’s recent mega money signing of Lille winger Nicholas Pepe may have had negative repurcussions for Celtic, with the French side keen on signing Jozo Simunovic.
The Ligue 1 side had already entered talks with the Hoops but has been unable to reach an agreement, however after Arsenal purchased their star man for an eye-watering £72million on Thursday, Celtic could now be fearing Lille returning with a larger offer.
Lille reported offered £4million as their initial bid, which Celtic duly rejected out of hand, and now it is expected that the club will rekindle their interest with a higher bid.
Lille coach Christophe Galtier has already confirmed that he holds significant interest in the Croatian defender, who is expected to play a big part in Celtic’s upcoming season.
Will the Hoops be able to keep hold of Simunovic this summer?
Yes
No
Simunovic would reunite with Timothy Weah at Lille, with the French outfit having completed the £12million signing of the United States international, who spent the last six months in Glasgow, earlier this window.
While Celtic have made it clear that are not actively looking to sell Simunovic, Lille’s new wealth is expected to complicate matters.
