Forrest keen on new Celtic deal – Why this is such a positive for club and country

James Forrest has revealed he is keen to extend his contract with the club once again, despite only penning a new deal in September last year; news that will certainly be a boost for the club and for Scotland.

According to the Scotsman, Forrest has publicly revealed how much he enjoys playing for Celtic and stated his desire to extend his contract as quickly as possible.

I’ve not hidden the fact that I’d like to extend. It’s a busy period at the moment with a lot of games coming thick and fast, but when the time is right, I’d love to commit to stay here for as long as I can. Nowadays you don’t get many one-club players, but there’s not many clubs like Celtic in the world.

The fan base and everything about the club is incredible. I’ve really seen that over the last few years, and I’d love to stay a part of that for as long as I can. Happiness is important. If you ask any footballer, you want to enjoy your career and that’s how I feel at Celtic.

Firstly, Forrest has hinted at his desire to remain at Celtic for the rest of his career. In an era where players are tempted into moves more than ever before, having a key figure in Forrest stating his desire to stay with the Hoops until he retires is huge.

Not only does it boost the atmosphere around the club, having last season’s Player of the Year in Scotland completely rule out a potential future move away from the club, and the league, is excellent news for the Scottish Premiership.

Keeping the best players in the league will clearly improve the quality of football but also help to attract players to joining.

It also bodes well for Celtic’s youngsters looking to break into the first team, who will see Forrest as inspiration and potentially want to emulate his successful career at Parkhead.
