Opposition Dangerman – Motherwell (A)

Celtic got their title defence off to a stylish start last weekend with an emphatic 7-0 win over St Johnstone and will be looking to continue their fine form against Motherwell on Saturday.

Neil Lennon’s side are playing their third game in seven days, following their 1-1 draw against Romanian outfit CFR Cluj on Wednesday.

Motherwell come into the game on an impressive run of results, having not conceded in all five competitive games this season.

The Steelmen scored 13 goals without reply in their pursuit to win their Scottish League Cup group earlier in the season. However, they were left frustrated with a 0-0 draw away at Livingston on the opening day of the league season.

Central to the Lanarkshire side’s success is their defence, with goalkeeper Marc Gillespie continuously pulling off a number of vital saves already this season.

Stalwart full-back Richard Tait always poses a threat on both the offensive and defensive front and arguably had Motherwell’s best chance in front of goal last weekend.

But who should the Hoops be most wary of?

Liam Donnelly

The 23-year-old Northern Irishman has struggled for game time since joining Motherwell last summer, but has made an extremely impressive start to this campaign when given his chance.

Manager Stephen Robinson has played Donnelly in midfield so far this season, despite being a recognised defender.

However, the risk has paid off, with the ex-Hartlepool man scoring four goals in as many games, including a double against Annan Athletic.

Celtic will be wary of the impressive youngster, but will still feel confident enough to contain him with their own impressive midfield.
