Celtic are reportedly eyeing a move for Bournemouth winger Jordan Ibe, but is it just a move to try and paper over the cracks?

According to the Scotsman, Ibe is a target for Celtic as Neil Lennon looks to strengthen his squad ahead of next month’s deadline, though the likes of Napoli, Espanyol and Fiorentina are all said to be interested.

However, is a move for Ibe merely an attempt to paper of the cracks of the summer window? And if he did sign for the Hoops, do they even need him?

Being linked with a relatively high profile move for a Premier League winger in the aftermath to an embarrassing defeat has an heir of inevitability about it.

It’s like somebody buying their other half some chocolate after an argument; a seemingly nice gesture but relatively meaningless and an attempt to paper over whatever has happened.

And why Ibe? With respect to the Bournemouth man, Celtic do not currently need wingers.

Though he is a talented footballer, and would no doubt be a good player in green and white, Celtic’s main priorities in the remaining two-and-a-bit weeks of the window need to be at the back. A goalkeeper, a full-back on both sides and potentially another centre-back need to be the areas to focus on.

Should Celtic sign Ibe?
