Celtic confirmed the signing of Jonathan Afolabi last weekend, with the BBC reporting that he signed a two-year deal with the Hoops.
But who is the 19-year-old, and what can we expect to see from him in green and white?
career so far
According to Transfermarkt, Afolabi began his career with Irish outfit St. Josephs Boys, before signing for Southampton as a 16-year-old in 2016.
Afolabi made over 70 appearances for Saints’ Under-18s and U23s respectively, scoring 16 times and creating eight assists.
The youngster has also represented the Republic of Ireland at U19 level 16 times, finding the back of the net on six occasions while also laying on two assists.

The versatile teenager has the ability to play anywhere across the front three, and he was primarily used as a centre-forward last season for Saints’ U23s.
In fact, Transfermarkt stats suggest that Afolabi was utilised as a striker for the majority of his time at Southampton, with 43 of his 73 appearances coming in that role.

Following the signing, Neil Lennon revealed that he is likely to need developing this season which suggests he may play for the reserve side and be limited to one or two cup appearances potentially.
We have signed him on a free transfer and he is one that’s a development. He is sort of on the cusp [of the first-team reckoning]. He will come in and train with us and we will get a good look at him over the next few weeks and see what we want to do with him in terms of his progression. He is raw but he has good potential.
