Edouard came close to Monaco move in the summer – Why it’s crucial the move fell through

Odsonne Edouard reportedly came very close to a return to Ligue 1 in the summer, but it is crucial for Celtic that he stayed at Parkhead.

According to Inside Futbol via French news outlet L’Equipe, AS Monaco came incredibly close to signing Eddy in the summer, and a contract was said to have been agreed in principle, but the Ligue 1 outfit pulled out of the deal for unexplained reasons.

So why was it crucial for Celtic that the move fell through?

Well it’s no secret that Edouard is a key figure for Celtic, and his start to the season has emphasised just that. 

The Frenchman continued his outstanding Glasgow Derby record last weekend, scoring once again against Rangers to put the Hoops 1-0 up at Ibrox, and another crucial strike came in the Europa League play-off first leg against AIK, as his free-kick gave Celtic that vital two-goal cushion.

And while he has continued his fine form in front of goal this season with five goals in 10 in all competitions, Eddy’s link up play has also been excellent this season, highlighted by the five assists he has created for his teammates.

Goals and assists have been flowing freely for the striker this season, and interest from Monaco is no doubt understandable, but the fact that the potential move broke down is crucial for Celtic.
