Former Leeds United striker Noel Whelan has revealed he is ‘baffled’ by Neil Lennon’s handling of Scott Sinclair this season, and believes there must be something happening that is not in the public eye; a point which certainly appears a likely option.
Speaking to Football Insider, Whelan suggests that Sinclair is a “proven matchwinner” and only something that has occurred off the pitch would result in Lennon freezing him out of the squad.
It’s a baffling situation. There’s been a fall-out at the training ground, or something’s happened at the training ground. That’s the only explanation, really, that I can think of. Yes, Celtic have started the season very well, but Scott Sinclair is easily good enough to get in their squad and, in the team as well, when he’s fit and firing.

There’s obviously something happened behind the scenes with Lennon. Otherwise, he would be in the team. Yes, Celtic have some really good players, but Sinclair is a proven matchwinner at that level.

Sinclair’s situation at Celtic this season certainly has been baffling to say the least.
As we know, the former Player of the Year in Scotland has been starved of first-team football this season, and even his social media post of him training alone during the international break has not yet done enough to convince Lennon to play him.
His next, and arguably best chance to push for a starting spot would certainly be in Celtic’s next fixture against Partick Thistle in the Scottish League Cup; but even that appears unlikely.
Whatever has happened with Sinclair is clearly unknown and only open to speculation, but one thing that is for sure is that the 30-year-old certainly appears to be out of favour under Lennon this season.
